Architecture has woven its way
through Michael and Lisa Tolhurst s
After the couple met online in 2010
they arranged to meet at the Hotel
Realm bar -- a project Michael, an
architect, had worked on.
"I think we both turned up to the
first date thinking, we will see how it
goes ," Michael said.
"We were there for four hours and
ended up staying for dinner."
Michael and Lisa became engaged
in September 2013 after discussing
marriage earlier in the year -- and even
looking at rings together. Michael
secretly bought a ring Lisa liked
before the duo ventured off on a two-
month holiday in Europe.
"I planned to take the ring with me
and propose to her when the moment
struck," Michael said.
"I proposed at a famous
architecturally designed thermal baths
complex in Switzerland. It s the sort of
place that is probably only familiar to
architects outside of Europe."
Michael and Lisa married in front of
about 50 guests at the National
Arboretum in Canberra s Margaret
Whitlam Pavilion on Saturday, April 5
-- the last weekend of daylight saving.
Michael, who runs his own
business, MT Architecture, said he and
Lisa, a social worker, "balance each

AT THE HIGH COURT
Music lovers can catch COZMO
perform at the High Court of Australia
on Sunday at 1pm. COZMO is a
mandolin ensemble. Its founding
members have played with mandolin
orchestras in the Netherlands,
Germany and the USA. Next year they
will again perform in Germany s BDZ
Eurofestival as members of the
25-member Australis Ensemble. The
mandolin ensemble will perform on
Sunday, July 20. Entry is free.
CHICKEN CO-OP AN
Whether you re craving fresh eggs but
can t keep chooks or have too many
eggs in one basket, a chook co-op

Change is running a workshop about
starting and managing a community
chicken co-operative, similar to a
shared vegetable garden. The
workshop will be held on Sunday, July
20, from 2pm. Cost: $2 members, $5
