The fate of a purpose-built playgroup
cottage in Kambah is uncertain as the
current occupants search for more
parents to utilise the venue.

hires out Theiss cottage, located on the
edge of the Kambah district playing
fields, to just one permanent weekly
The cottage has been well-used
since it opened in the 1970s, and while
interest is not at its peak, mums believe
it s an ideal location.

treasurer Mac McCann is one of about
eight mothers and their 14 children
who get together on a Thursday
morning at Theiss cottage.
"It has everything we were looking
for," she said.
"It s got space where the kids can
play inside in the play room or outside,
because it s fenced off so they can t go
anywhere. It s got a space where we
can sit and chat."
Ms McCann said the group of mums
met during a music program and hit it
off as friends.
When the program stopped, they
decided to keep their mums group
together but had trouble finding a
location which suited everyone.

but if you re a slightly larger group, the
kids get a bit messy.
"Here, you still have to tidy up after
yourself but everyone does it together
so there is no effort involved."
For Tricia Wimpenny and her
granddaughter Evie Canavan, 2, the
cottage provides a chance to meet
others in the neighbourhood.
Ms Wimpenny started visiting the
facility with her own children in 1983.

off residency to an eminent Australian
