Not every parked car causes traffic obstruction
Sorry Leon Arundell, (Chronicle
letters, February 3), it is completely
idiotic or even undemocratic to
hand the powers that be carte
blanch to fine each and every
transgressor who parks his car on a
grass verge in a suburban street.
Not every offending vehicle is
parked in a way that obstructs
pedestrian traffic nor does every
offending vehicle block access to
Fines are only justified in
circumstances where vehicles do
so. Some roadways are so narrow
that where cars are parked kerbside
on both sides of the road, two-way
vehicle access is near impossible.
Contrary to your assertion that so
much damage is caused to our
environment it would seem to me to
be infinitesimal in comparison to
that created by industry and motor
transport in general. In short if a
vehicle parked on a nature strip is
not causing undue inconvenience,
no offence has been committed.
