After raising nearly $9000 for schools in East
Timor, Hughes Primary is aiming to embark on
a new sister school relationship to help out any
way it can.
About $230,000 was raised for the Dollars for
Dili project across Canberra and has gone
towards new sanitation and health facilities at
two schools and a new national activities centre
for the Timor-Leste Scouting Association.
Year 6 student representative Liam Ayres, 12,
said his classmates decided to raise funds after
learning of the dire situation, where up to 1000
students and 25 teachers shared just four toilets.
"We talked about it in class, and we talked
about how lucky we were, having lots of toilets
when they only have a few toilets.
We also thought it would be fun to have a
wheelie walk-a-thon and we all wanted to do it,
